The Bride's Wedding

You wanna know what my wedding would be like, huh, senor? Ok...vamos a cerrarnos los ojos, agarrarnos de las manos y vamos a pretender que fueramos novios.

The date: the Saturday that falls during the weekend of summer solstice.

Location: outdoors (garden)

Me: White/cream chiffon or lacy sundress; maybe the hem is dip dyed ombré with sunset colors (yellow, red, orange & pink)...barefoot to show off mehndi. Locs curly and up in an open-top wrap.

You: Guayabera shirt and dress pants...footwear is up to you.

Wedding party: sundresses & guayaberas

Bouquet: Sunflowers and Gerbera daisies w/sprigs of lavender. Boutonnières & Corsages: Gerbera daisies (indigenous to South Africa).

Down the Aisle: Bear & Nick (nephew) walk me in to Beyoncé's Dangerously In Love.

Ceremony: starts with West African libations ceremony to honor ancestors; blended family vow to elders & kids in our care; poetry for the vows (yeah, I got some spoken word in my background...wink); plenty of ethnic traditions; release butterflies during Native American prayer; jump the broom (hopefully made by you).

Reception: Shiiiiiid...party up!!! First dance: Flor Pálida (Warning: I can't fuckin' dance). Food: Guyanese, Puerto Rican & African-American; I'd make 2 small Guyanese black cakes for each table (not a lot of work) and hire my two childhood girlfriends (they each have bakeries)--one to make a sweet table and the other for the wedding cake. I'm not sure what guest thank-you gifts should be (honey? cigars? a downloadable playlist?)

*Back to our respective corners* I hope you have an idea of what a bohemian chick (ok, hippie) is like as a bride. The love expressed is unselfish, communal. Lots of warmth, smiles, laughs, kisses, hugs and fun. The honeymoon? A family vacay...maybe a Disney cruise that hits lil spots in the Caribbean (of course, we'd carve out as much alone time as possible). Ah-ight...your turn. What's your wedding lookin' like?
